Beautiful Bows

Don't forget to link up to my FIRST EVER LINK PARTY!!  I would love to see you and your great posts over there!

______________________________________________________________________________

I have a new obsession this week - BOWS!

I just taught myself/made up a way to make these adorable bows.  I am going to try and make some knitted ones next after I finish making a hundred more of these, I have so much scrap fabric I am dying to use.

I turned some into headbands and some into barrettes.  I am also going to use them for my baby hats, particularly my baby bear girl hat.  I love putting a bow pin on one of the ears.

I also am going to attach them to my knitted headbands.

But first I have been working on a quick little tutorial for you all.  Similar to the fabric flower one.
It is almost ready to share.  Promise.

In the meantime, link up your favorite project, tutorial, recipe or just your favorite post to my link party!

Thanks for stopping by!

Furniture Painting Time - soon

I am so excited.  In the past few weeks I have accumulated 3 amazing pieces of furniture.  For a whopping total of $17.  Yay!  Now the only problem is figuring out how to paint them and make them look amazing. But I am totally up for the challenge.

This hutch came my from my grandparents' home.  She had a lot of collectibles and I loved going through the cupboards as a little girl exploring everything.  I am so glad my mom and aunts let me take her home (oh and that family friends drove it all the way down here from Wisconsin).  Thanks everyone.

I think I am going to paint this piece white or grey or some combo of both.  Oh and the hardware is definitely getting an update.  I am excited to watch this piece transform.

Next I found this side table for $7.  I desperately needed a better side table in our bedroom and this piece seemed to fit the bill.

It's simple and needs a lot of love.  I am going to paint this either navy or grey.  I think the navy would be fun.  Or maybe a dark graphite........I don't know.  Oh and the hardware is going buh-bye.

I love this piece.  I found it at a local used furniture store that is open only on Saturdays.  They had about 15-20 of these old box tv frames.  It is from a local hotel.  They gave it to me for $10.

I had one day of sun and slight warmth to sand this sucker and I didn't waste anytime.

I am going to leave it natural and add a shelf on the inside.  I am also going to replace the back board.  Oh and maybe even add some curtained swing arms or a rod that allows the fabric to slide.  Just depends.  At first I was going to use this in my craft room but while it was stored in our living room waiting to be finished I used it to fold laundry and it was perfect.  Great solid surface and great storage inside.

So stay tuned.  As soon as it warms up I am going to get busy!

Fabric Flower Tutorial - at last

Well awhile back many of you asked for a tutorial on how I make the flower rosettes.  I am no expert and these are not original designs but I finally put together a little video on how I was taught to make them.

I have to give fair warning.  First of all, I have never made a video tutorial nor posted a video on my blog so just keep that in mind.  You will also notice that I get a text at some point in the video, my glue gun breaks and I have a terrible time working my fingers.  You see I was looking through the camera as I made it and whenever I tried looking around the camera I ended up out of focus or even out of the frame.    But overall I think you will get the idea.  So go easy on me......

And if you can't stand my voice (or my video) than here are some photos to try and walk you through it.

Start with a strip fabric about 2 inches by 18 inches.  The smaller the rosette than the smaller the strip and vice versa.

Then fold the fabric in half.

Then fold it in half again.  How wide this beginning part of your fabric is, dictates how thick your rosette is.  I like my flowers on the thinner side.  Thus the double fold.

Then start rolling it to form a little bud which will be the center of your flower.

Once the bud is about the size of your fingernail secure it with a little hot glue.  It is important to give your flower a little glue every few folds so it doesn't come unraveled.  First you need to learn how to make these folds though.  This is where the video may be more helpful but let's try it with pictures.

Just keeping folding as you go around and around.  And don't forget to give it some glue every few folds.
And don't worry about messing up.  You can't go wrong.

I hope you found this tutorial helpful.  And please don't hesitate to ask any questions.
Thanks for stopping by!

babies + knitting = love

Are you sick of hearing about knitting and babies?  If so I am sorry.  The winter breeds lots of knitting projects but have no fear - spring is on its way and so are the flea markets, furniture rehabs and so many other great DIY projects! I even have a large, special package in the basement waiting for a whole new look - more on that soon.

In the meantime can you forgive another knitting post?  I just have some really cute and new creations I am dying to share and receive feed back on.  I just added them to etsy, you can see them on the right, but I need your help with whether I should continue producing them for the shop.  Okay, here you go.

I kind of love this headband!  Just simple and sweet - too bad it is for a baby.  I would wear it.

This is the hat I am up in the air about.  I think I need to see it on a baby.  I may need to send this to Erin Tole for her input.  She is an amazing baby photographer and knows how to style babies.  She uses the best baby accessories in her photos.

Then there is this basic cap.  I NEVER have just a basic cap but I kind of love the simplicity of this as well.  Maybe it is the color that makes it more interesting than just a basic cap.  I don't know.  Let me know what you think.

Thanks!
