To be honest I do not know what it originally was used for - my guess is a laundry sink or something but what I envisioned was a super sweet drink cooler for BBQ's. There is a plug at the bottom so just fill this baby up with ice and pop in some cool drinks and you are good - plus it rolls. Don't know why that is important for a cooler but it is cool.
I think this could also make a fun planter with beautiful flowers or even a utility sink in a laundry room or mud room. That would take some work and some plumbing but it could be a cool effect.
I think I will continue to use it as a drink cooler though - now I just need to plan a party.
The real question that I need your help with is whether to paint the white base a fun color or leave it rustic and natural?
What do you think?

Fill it full of Neapolitan ice cream and then give Kara and I a call!
Love the cooler idea....
I would spray paint it (but I am a little obsessed with spray paint,so I might be a slightly biased!)
I think I'd just leave it as is, and use it as a drink cooler outside. But, if you were to freshen it up, it would be an amazing hamper...
~*~*found your blog thru The Lettered Cottage! Im so glad I did!! LOVE your fleamarket find!!Im putting you on my blogroll and im a new follower~*~*Blessings,Rachel :)
I love it! I think youcould leave it like that with all its glorious white chippines.
I adore the photos of your dogs. I've always yearned for a border collie. Grrrr!
It is an old rinse tub. Housewives used to use them when they would wash laundry with a wringer washer. I have one and use it as a planter, but they are also neat as a cooler. Mine is "Martha Stewart green" where yours is white, that is the original color for mine I think. I would keep it as it is.
Cindy is correct, I have used these, my mom had two. The cooler idea is great, and I wouldn't touch it. Very cool and would love to find one. Love your blog, also.
Love it! So jealous! I would keep it as is!

Thanks everyone for your input and the actual name and origin. I was definitely leaning towards not painting it but my husband kept saying it looked nasty - he doesn't appreciate all things vintage or farmhouse. So I am leaving it!
I want this! The cute girl who cuts my hair, had a baby, so she does it in her home now! I went for the first time and went to her backyard to her backdoor and she had this exact rinse tub potted with beautiful flowers!
I Love it!!!!
Great find!
I love these. I see them at the antique stores around here and they are always displayed as ice chests for the summer. My grandma had one and it was a clothes washer with an attachment to ring out the clothes.
I would use it as a cooler too and leave the color as is!
It's perfect!
